WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE

enrolls lamp
Hotels
Manufacturers
Schools / Universities
Nursing Homes / Health Care Facilities

Hotels are natural candidates for a Demand Response Program.  Whether they cater to the business traveler or emphasize meeting and banquet services a hotel is poised to reap substantial benefits such as:

  • A considerable revenue stream with minimal activity and no added labor costs.
  • No initial or recurring expense.  Earn without spending!
  • Free metering will help monitor your energy efficiency and improve your electric load profile ultimately lowering your costs.
  • Enhance or further develop your position as an advocate of environmental concerns.

Typically the grid is most vulnerable weekdays in the early afternoon and that is when a call for reduction will almost certainly take place. Hotel guests are typically not on site during these periods, which makes it easier for you to reduce electricity (air conditioning, lighting, etc. in unoccupied rooms) or run your on-site generator.  Simply utilize natural lighting where available, increase the thermostat setting by 5° to 6°, shut off unnecessary pumps and motors, modify chiller settings, and/or make use of on-site generation or your energy management system if so equipped.  Additionally, avoid using commercial style cafeteria or laundry equipment during the event.  This will enhance your participation and maximize the dollars earned.

Manufacturers that participate in our program are a broad and diverse group involved in the production of goods for the plastics, printing, food, metals and packaging industries, to name only a few.  They have facilities that range from 20,000 square feet with 15 employees to millions of square feet, multiple locations and literally thousands of production, engineering and administrative staff.  Regardless of who they are or what they produce the common denominator each shares is the ability to participate in a Demand Response Program and the desire to "fight back" against ever increasing energy costs.  Consider just a few of the benefits available:

  • Free, interval metering which will help monitor your electrical consumption and additionally provide insight into your energy efficiency.
  • New, substantial revenue stream without any cost or recurring expense.
  • Advance notice of voltage fluctuations administered by the utility, allowing you to protect sensitive production equipment from getting “fried”.

Is your facility a one shift or multiple shift operation? Is your 2nd shift lighter than your 1st shift? Do you have multiple pieces of equipment performing the same process?  Do you have the ability to shift some workers to other tasks for a couple hours if you were given a day-ahead notice? The answers to those questions and others will help us determine your potential to actually get paid to "peak shave".  Manufacturers by nature have both substantial and numerous energy draws allowing them to manipulate their processes or systems to achieve a demand reduction while protecting their production from unnecessary risk and ultimately increasing the bottom line.  In addition to scaling back manufacturing equipment or processes, other electric reduction measures could be turning off unnecessary lighting, HVAC, pumps, motors, modify air conditioning settings, and/or make use of on-site generation or your energy management system if so equipped. This will augment your participation and maximize the dollars earned.

Schools/Universities currently enrolled range from facilities with only a single building and 200 students to sprawling suburban campuses serving in excess of 10,000 children or college students.  Regardless of size they all enjoy the following benefits from their participation:

  • Positive revenue stream without any initial or recurring expense.
  • Affirmative impact on the environment.
  • Constructive community involvement.
  • Opportunity to turn participation into student learning experience.

Because of the nature of their operation schools are in a particularly advantageous position to reap the benefits of a Demand Response Program.  Budgets in educational institutions are tight and energy costs are rising. There are many ways to participate: Turn off lights in non-essential areas, make use of on-site generation if so equipped, avoid using commercial style cafeteria equipment during the event, utilize natural lighting where available and adjust air conditioning temperature settings to maximize your participation.

Nursing Homes / Hospitals participants include facilities with as few as 50 beds.  Regardless of size their participation yields numerous benefits including:

  • Positive revenue stream without any initial or recurring expense.
  • Earn money for utilizing your state mandated generator.
  • Constructive community involvement.
  • Free metering will help monitor your energy efficiency and improve your electric load profile ultimately lowering your costs.
  • Advance notice of voltage fluctuations administered by the utility, allowing you to protect sensitive equipment from getting “fried”.

With electricity costs spiraling out of control many health care facilities find themselves at the mercy of a volatile marketplace for this crucial energy supply.  One proven method to reduce the cost of electricity while achieving a reduction in demand is to actively participate in a Demand Response Program and actually get paid to reduce your demand for only a few hours per year.  A typical health care facility is well positioned to maximize this revenue stream.  Their generators load capacity represents instant curtailment without unnecessary risk to the operation of the facility or the residents.
Simply utilize natural lighting where available, make use of on-site generation if so equipped, avoid using commercial style cafeteria or laundry equipment during the event, turn off lights in non-essential areas, consider shutting down one elevator bank when multiple banks exist and adjust air conditioning settings only slightly to maximize your $$$ and participation.
